Impact Investing
Impact investing means different things to different people. Some define it as impact-first investing, prioritizing mission over financial returns, while others balance financial return and impact equally. Our role is not to prescribe a definition for impact investing but rather to support clients however they define it. Ivy Capital’s leaders have extensive experience building, leading, and advising major foundations, institutional clients, and family offices on their impact investing strategies. In addition to offering customized training workshops on impact investing, the leadership team has spoken at national conferences (such as Mission Investors Exchange, the Global Impact Investing Network and SOCAP) and taught impact investing topics at various prestigious institutions, including Oxford University’s Said Business School, the University of Chicago, and IU Lilly School of Philanthropy, to name a few.
Whether you are new to impact investing or already making impact investments and looking for a long-term partner to manage that strategy entirely, Ivy Capital can support you in that effort. Through our affiliate Kind Capital, a leading impact investing advisory firm, we have the ability to support clients as a strategic advisor that goes deeper than traditional investment advisory capabilities.
Outsourced CIO Services
While some clients require the services of an investment advisor to advise on specific areas of their investment strategy, others seek to outsource their entire investment strategy to a trusted partner fully. Ivy Capital Management can serve as your outsourced CIO, effectively operating as an extension of your team. While the firm is relatively new, our senior team members have known each other for decades and have managed assets for institutions and family offices. We use our combined experiences across traditional investments, finance, and philanthropy to serve our clients more comprehensively.
Separately managed accounts (SMAs)
While some asset managers require their clients to transfer assets to their preferred partners, we do not. If clients wish to keep their accounts in the existing financial institution, we can manage those assets through a separately managed accounts structure.
Direct Investments
We can support direct investments as well as fund investments. Our team has extensive experience investing in both structures.
Mission Investments
Some investors seek to align their investments with their values. Regardless of the flavor of impact investing our clients desire, we have experience managing assets based on clients’ specified social screens and mission objectives. Some clients may merely seek to avoid investing in opportunities that are harmful to the environment or socially, while others seek to invest in opportunities that drive positive impact specifically.
Sub-Advisors for Impact Investing
Many of our peers and larger asset managers sometimes lack the expertise to execute an investment strategy integrating impact investing with a consulting mindset. Impact investing requires a unique combination of experience seamlessly integrating the sophistication of traditional finance and investing with a philanthropic purpose. We welcome the opportunity to partner as a sub-advisor with other asset managers who prefer to outsource the impact investing carveout of their clients.
Philanthropic & Charitable Giving Advisory
Giving away money is easier. Giving it in a way that helps achieve your charitable objectives is not. Our team has worked in philanthropy, structuring grant proposals, assessing risks as well as potential for impact. We can support your philanthropic goals and provide strategies to integrate them with your overall portfolio. Traditional philanthropy has focused on giving away money which is viewed as mutually exclusive from investing; while we can respect that approach if that is how clients prefer to manage their assets, we can also help strategize various integrated approaches that may be achieve philanthropic objectives more efficiently and sustainably.
Our Approach
Comprehensive Analysis
We start with a detailed review of the current financial situation, including income sources, investments, and planned expenditures or distributions. Our goal is to understand long-term goals, both financial and charitable, and any investment constraints.
Strategic Planning
Based on our analysis, we work with you to create your investment policy statement (IPS) or adapt your existing one if you already have one. We then develop a customized portfolio strategy tailored to your goals, incorporating any constraints noted in your IPS. The IPS is reviewed annually with you to ensure it remains appropriate, or revised as necessary.
Implementation
We assist in implementing the recommended strategies guided by the IPS, ensuring all necessary documentation, subscriptions, and filings are handled accurately and timely.
Ongoing Monitoring
As circumstances can change. we offer continuous monitoring and adjustments to ensure the investment strategy guided by the IPS remains appropriate. In addition to regular reporting, if material changes in the portfolio investments occur, we will notify you to discuss how that impacts your portfolio with recommended actions, if any. Of course, we are always happy to discuss any questions have about your investments.
